Death of a Metrosexual Ape

Here is a story that I somehow missed. The alpha male of the Pittsburgh Zoo's gorilla family died and went to gorilla heaven last month. His name was MIMBO.

The ape was 43 years old and the word "mimbo" might have meant something else back then, or it might have meant nothing at all. In today's parlance, "mimbo" is short for "male bimbo".

Well, for all I know, perhaps he was. Nothing is left of him now but the skull; the rest of his body was cremated. A pity, that. I can picture a lone gravestone near the entrance to the primate house with the epitaph: "Here lies MIMBO; He was a real BIMBO".

Goodbye, Mimbo.
