Shhh, be Vewy Quiet, I'm Hunting Wabtec

Employees at Wabtec, the Wilmerding, PA-based company formerly know as Westinghouse Air Brake Co. (WABCO), may be in for a little restructuring this year.

I really have nothing to say about this news story. I just wonder whether all of Wabtec's big shots talk like Elmer Fudd, and whether the company has diversified, testing double barreled shotguns with flexible barrels that you can tie into a bow, as well as air brakes.

I have a friend who is a civil engineer who used to work for is with GM told me the other day I think that a South Korean Company was attempting to buy WABCO.

All things considered, I'm surprised that it took until almost the year 2000 for the Wabbitech merger.

One of my favorite places to go watch trains, when my kids were younger, was behind the Station Brake Cafe in Wilmerding. Not only did you get good track-level views of trains coming from both directions, but when there was no action, you got to look at the Westinghouse Air Brake building across the right-of-way.

If the company is sold, it would be a shame if the new paymaster chooses to move it out of its longtime location. The hissy air sounds coming from Wabtec are part of what gives Wilmerding its unique character.
